HAVING FUN WITH PHONICS

This course will help equip you with the skills and confidence needed to teach phonics. You will learn a variety of approaches to support lesson delivery and ways in which phonics can be applied across all areas of the curriculum. It will help to provide you with ideas for the KS1 phonic testing and give you ideas to use in your own classroom practice.   You will take away a range of strategies to teach phonics in a practical, hands-on and engaging manner. It will enable you to take away a range of strategies so that phonics can be taught in a pacey and stimulating way for children.

This course will enable you to:

  • Understand the principles and practices of high-quality phonics – Letters and Sounds
  • Actively engage in teaching phonics outdoors
  • Develop a range of strategies to teach phonics across the curriculum
  • Discover a number of simple ideas to assess progress and plan for next steps
  • Understand the ‘Simple View of Reading’ and how this can support planning for interventions

Target audience:  Whether you are an NQT, teacher, Literacy Co-ordinator, EYE, nursery or teaching assistant, this course this course benefits all, as you will return to school equipped with a wealth of ideas to move teaching and learning, in your setting, forwards.
