HAVING FUN WITH PHONICS

Friday 22nd June    9:30-15:30

Led by Jackie Slaughter – Specialist Leader in Education for early years

 

This course will help equip you with the skills and confidence needed to teach phonics. You will learn a variety of approaches to support lesson delivery and ways in which phonics can be applied across all areas of the curriculum. It will help to provide you with ideas for the KS1 phonic testing and give you ideas to use in your own classroom practice.   You will take away a range of strategies to teach phonics in a practical, hands-on and engaging manner. It will enable you to take away a range of strategies so that phonics can be taught in a pacey and stimulating way for children.

This course will enable you to:

  • Understand the principles and practices of high-quality phonics – Letters and Sounds
  • Actively engage in teaching phonics outdoors
  • Develop a range of strategies to teach phonics across the curriculum
  • Discover a number of simple ideas to assess progress and plan for next steps
  • Understand the ‘Simple View of Reading’ and how this can support planning for interventions

Target audience:  Senior Leaders, Teachers, Early Years Educators and anyone else working within the early years sector

How to teach SMART  – Time-saving ideas for teaching and learning in the early years

Most teachers will say that they are ‘time poor’ and struggle to get everything done within the working day.  This course will provide you with time-saving and cost-effective ideas to support the development of an enabling environment and help deliver outstanding outcomes.

  • Provide you with the information needed to support the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes in all areas of learning
  • Teach you how to audit the learning environment in order to prioritise actions in the short, medium and long-term
  • Provide you with a range of cost-effective ideas for teaching all areas of learning inside and out
  • Discover how to use loose materials to support teaching and learning
  • Provide you with a range of quick and simple assessments formats
  • Show you how to create quick and easy displays which showcase process over product
